However, there are many scientific publications that have linked the theaflavins and catechins found in tea with a reduction in the likelihood of contracting certain types of cancer.

One such example is a recent study by Bedfordshire Hospitals Consultant Professor Robert Thomas, which suggested that drinking tea can reduce the risk of getting prostate cancer. Prostate cancer is now the most commonly diagnosed cancer in the UK, so even if putting the kettle on and making a cuppa only slightly reduces your chances of getting it, why not?

3.     Drink Tea for Improved Gut Health

Having a healthy gut comes with all sorts of benefits, from having better digestion, to helping your body absorb nutrients more easily and even improving the immune system.

This can help ensure that fats are broken down more efficiently and used as energy by our bodies. Secondly, caffeine (which is found in both green and black tea) has been proven to aid weight loss.

Moving on the indirect ways tea can help with weight loss. Put simply, tea is one of the lowest-calorie drinks you can consume. Swapping fizzy drinks, alcohol or sugary coffee drinks for a simple cup of tea or iced tea can make a huge difference in your daily calorie intake. For example, a standard 330ml can of Coca Cola contains 139 calories, whilst a mug of green tea (depending on your mug size) is somewhere between 2-10.
