Strength factor: 4 (DARK ROAST)
Flavour Notes: Nutty, Cocoa, malt, sweet nut, warm spicy, earthy coffee

This is a 100% Arabica coffee with a very mellow body and smooth, malty finish.

What you’ll notice straight away is a distinctively light colour – and it’s all down to the method of processing.

The way this coffee is grown takes inspiration from the shipment of coffee from India to Europe in the 19th Century.

Beans would be stored below the water line and kept humid because of the porous wood used in the ships’ hulls. This resulted in reduced acidity and a slightly golden raw bean.

Jay says

“I always recommend this very smooth yet punchy coffee to enjoy an afternoon natter with friends or an early evening social gathering. The focus is on conversation, not that early morning caffeine boost. This medium to dark roast gives a beautifully smooth taste to savour.”

Today, that process is imitated in the Sakleshpur area of India. On hillsides 850m to 1,000m high, growers expose natural process beans to monsoon winds, full of moisture, over about a 14-week period. This recreates the low acidity and colour achieved by the 19th Century pioneers. It also makes the raw beans swell to about double their original size. It all helps to produce this mellow yet distinctive flavour. Simply choose your grind type, add to basket and very soon you’ll be enjoying freshly roasted coffee at its finest…
